GENERAL

The loading and discharge supervision operations include PRE-LOADING SURVEYS FOR STEEL PRODUCTS, which surveys are usually requested by P&I Associations. Additionally, discharge surveys are frequently requested – particularly when the vessel has encountered heavy weather. The surveyors employed for all kinds of steel surveys are well-experienced in this work. They are provided with laptop computers which facilitate preparation of exception lists to assist the Master in clausing Bs/L and M/Rs, and in conjunction with high quality digital cameras and cellular phones enable the Surveyors when necessary to send digital photographs to this office for onward transmission by email to principals.
Also under loading and discharge operations are pre-loading surveys (monitoring or loading supervision) of such delicate cargoes as rice and sugar. Since shippers of these cargoes insist on clean Bs/L, the onus is on the Master to reject any cargo for which he is unable to give a clean receipt and therefore competent and reliable Surveyors and Tally staff are necessary to assist him.



Our surveyors handing this kind of work are all well experienced in the dunnaging, loading and stowing of bagged rice, including the construction of air channels (trenches). They are provided with good quality moisture meters for random checking of the cargo and have special mobile phones (MMS system) with which they can take photographs of anything of particular interest and transmit them direct to similar unit in this office from where they can be down-loaded to a computer and sent to the Principals by email. Our moisture meters are regularly checked and calibrated by comparison with samples tested in our infra-red oven. We have 2 of these ovens for double checking. Bagged sugar does not require any special dunnaging or stowage arrangements, but great care must be taken to ensure that there is no caking of the cargo in the bags and that the bags are clean.
